European alternatives to SignNow
SignNow is a US-based e-signature tool that's popular for its low price point — but if you're handling contracts with European customers or employees, its American ownership and data residency story is increasingly hard to ignore.
The most common reason European teams look for SignNow alternatives isn't that SignNow is bad at what it does — it's that it's owned by airSlate, a US company, and your documents end up on US infrastructure. Post-Schrems II, that matters for any organisation processing personal data of EU residents. Legal and compliance teams are the ones usually raising the flag, not ops.
The second issue is signature quality. SignNow offers simple electronic signatures, which are fine for plenty of contexts, but it isn't a Qualified Trust Service Provider under eIDAS. If you're in a sector where QES is required — certain financial, legal, or public-sector contexts — SignNow simply doesn't get you there. You'd need to bolt on something else.
For Swedish businesses specifically, there's also the BankID question. SignNow doesn't support BankID for signing, which in practice means Swedish counterparties can't authenticate the way they're used to. That friction slows deals down and makes the tool feel less professional in a Swedish context.

Our honest take
If QES or eIDAS certification is your primary concern, look at Scrive (Swedish company, QTSP status, BankID support), Yousign (French, eIDAS-certified, clean SaaS), Skribble (strong QES across DACH and wider Europe), or Penneo (Danish QTSP with solid Nordic eID coverage). These beat both SignNow and Avtal on signature legal weight.
If you're a Swedish SME who primarily needs contracts drafted and signed in one place — without switching tools between writing and signing — Avtal fits that specific gap. It's EU-hosted and built for Swedish market workflows. What it won't give you is QES, enterprise-scale automation, or support for international eID methods beyond the basics. Scrive or Visma Sign are stronger if those things matter. SignNow beats Avtal on price for pure signature volume; Avtal beats it on EU data residency and the contract-plus-sign workflow being in a single Swedish product.
